funny story- the first time I was in Japan, we broke off from another group @ a train station. there was this noodle shop were you went up to a kiosk outside the door, made your selection, and paid (card or cash acceptor.) then you went in and handed them your ticket to get your order. not knowing any better, I had ordered curry udon.

now, I know the usual way to eat udon in Japan is to pick up some noodles and slurp them into your mouth, using the air drawn in to cool them down. But- being American and having grown up where eating noisily is rude- I couldn’t get the hang of it, and some kept plopping down into the bowl with a splash.

remember, this was curry udon.

and I was wearing a white shirt.
